Why 90% Of People Fail Online

The first thing I want to tell you is really the core reason why most people fail:

Everyone’s seeking instant gratification.

There’s this mindset on the internet, that you do the work and you get paid immediately. Like in most jobs, you invest X amount of time, and you get paid right away for the time that you invest.

It’s not like you’re putting the time first without seeing results and eventually, you get paid. When you have a regular job you get paid by hours. Employers will tell you: look, if you work one hour you will get paid thirty dollars. That’s the mindset.

And the thing with most people online, most people that are getting started, is that they approach the Internet with the same mindset: if I’m gonna put three hours right now and I’m gonna get X amount of return back.

So when people come to them you know they see all these gurus on YouTube and Instagram, flashing off their cars and how much money they make. And how they just push this button and get to make a ton of money. People have a mindset of, if I start a business online and I buy this course, I’m gonna make twenty thousand dollars a month, and it doesn’t really work like that. in fact it’s quite the opposite.

Regular Job = 1x Salary

Most people are used to in a regular job, where you put in the work – you put one hour, you put two hours, you put three hours – and the more time you spend the more you make. So if you invest two hours working you get paid two hours’ worth of work.

You get paid if you work. This is what most people are used to in a typical working scenario.

What really happens on the internet, how the internet really looks like, is something like this:

It’s a graph where in the beginning you’re gonna put in the work for a long time, and you’re not gonna see a lot of results.

This is all the time and work that you’re putting here:

And eventually when things catch up your earnings will go up, like this:

And this is where things get fun: where you make the most money. You put in the same amount of work, but basically, things skyrocket.

So, in the beginning, you might be putting X amount of time without getting a good return or making any money back, because you’re building the foundation, you’re building the assets. And eventually, whether things catch up, it just like snowballs to a point where you can’t even believe how much money you’re making. Let me show you the strategies behind it.

Easy Online Selling System

We have many vendors, and some of them have previously followed some internet gurus on social media.

They started an online business, and they followed this person on YouTube. And this person was standing to do X-Y & Z, but when they applied it, they didn’t get any results. So they were like “Oh, this doesn’t work…”

It’s not that the business model didn’t work. It doesn’t mean that the information of the coach or this person who was learning from didn’t work. This means that they haven’t been around enough time to master their skills to build the assets to a point where they can reach the fun part.

It took me one year to get that first sale, because I was putting the word, building the website, recording videos, creating the Help Center… Sometimes I really freaked out because I was like, “…man, I’m putting all this work, putting all this time, and it’s not paying off…”

And that’s because I didn’t understand that what I was really doing was building the foundation for long-term business, a long-term brand.

So that’s what I want to tell you with an instant gratification mindset…

It’s what makes most people fail online.

I’ve done affiliate marketing,  I’ve done e-commerce, I’ve created my own products, my own digital services, I’ve done it all.

I’m telling you, everything works.

And most of the strategies that are from people on Social Media, you may apply them, and they could work. But the thing is that people don’t make them work, because they are not willing to put the work first. It’s not that the strategy doesn’t work.

It’s that people don’t make them work…

So hopefully you understand this graph

Now the first thing is the mindset.

You first gotta have the mindset. Because even if I give you some strategies right now, if you don’t have the mindset, it doesn’t matter what you do, it’s never gonna work.

Once you have the right mindset, you need to build Online assets.

What are Online Assets?

It’s just like in real estate. Let’s say that you buy an apartment or a piece of land with a house. You rent that house to someone and you get paid $2,000 per month for renting that house.

So someone that lives there pays you $2,000 a month. That house is gonna be 3, 4, 5, 10 20, 30, 40, 50 years there. It’s a long term asset, meaning that, when you put in the work to get the money to buy the house, and the house is gonna be there for the long term, you keep making money from that asset.

That’s in real estate, and on the internet, it basically works the same way. You build online real estate, online assets.

What most people think about Online Assets is that you place an ad on Facebook or Google, and then you send people to your product, or to your website directly. And that magically people will say “OMG, this is awesome!”, and they take out the credit card and purchase…

Well, maybe that’s how it used to work a long time ago. But now, there’s a lot more skepticism and there are more steps on the process. There is a trust-building process that needs to go before people spending money on your website, in your brand, on anything.

There’s a relationship-building process, and what you have to do is to build assets and by assets I mean, building an audience. When you build an audience in different places, those are online assets.

Creating Online Assets

This is a list of assets that you could perfectly build:

Instagram followers:
If you have 1000 followers that’s an asset. You keep growing that asset 2,000 3,000 5,000 10,000 50,000 100,000 followers… And the more followers you have, if you’re providing a volume, getting great content, I have a good offer, the more money you will make over time.

A second asset is Linkedin:
I’m gonna tell you what happened at least with my Linkedin profile.

I started my Linkedin profile when I was 24. I didn’t want to create a Linkedin profile, I was extremely shy. If you go to my Linkedin profile and see the first posts, you will see I started posting very late. I was so frustrated and I didn’t know what I was doing. I was so shy and I just posted things that people could see like that in the beginning.

So anyway, I was at the work stage. I was putting in all the work but got no results. And then in 2019, I reached a month where I got my first breakthrough month and I got like 1,000 subscribers every month. That’s when I reached the snowball part of the graph. I put in the work for a long time, I got no return, and then suddenly I had more than 15,000 followers. I remember that time when I made my first sales. I made more money than I’ve ever made, after things snowballed, and I understand how things work.

3. YouTube channel.
Now guess what? The reason that’s an online asset, is because, when you have videos on your channel, you don’t have to be physically in your channel, and those videos are going to be working for you. So if you create those videos in a way that provides value and helps your audience, those videos are gonna be building relationships for you over time, and building that bond with your audience, so that they want to buy from you.

4. Messenger
On Facebook now you can make marketing through Messenger.
You can build a list of people that you can send them a message on Facebook, just like an email. The only difference is that you don’t get the emails of those people. So the cool thing about the email is that you get the emails.

5. Email List
Let’s say that Instagram dies. One day, Mark Zuckerberg says they’re closing down Instagram, and you lose your followers over there… At least, if you have your email list of 50,000 people that are passionate about the architecture design, you can always send them an email: “Hey guys, there is this new platform, I’m going to be showing you how to use it” or “Hey guys, here’s the newest architecture feature for X project. You can get it now!”. And boom, you send an email and make new friends, you make money, or whatever it is. It’s that simple.

The value of creating assets

When you have an audience for an e-commerce store, you don’t have to worry about other things. It doesn’t matter what happens to the economy. It doesn’t matter what updates go ahead in the government or on Facebook. You have your audience and you can make a post or storytelling them “Hey guys, we just created this new project! It’s selling out, we have limited stock, and you can get it so click on the link”

That’s how you get sales

Most people think that it’s just about placing ads on Facebook, Google or YouTube, offering a product and that they will get rich in a few days, and the older life will be sorted out for the next 20 years… C’mon…

What people don’t understand is that it takes a tremendous amount of work in the beginning. You might not see results for months, but in exchange what you are getting the benefit and the value that you are getting all of that time invested is long-term stability. And the fact that you don’t have to go to a job. You could perfectly be in your house working on your business.

Because now you have a business!

Your business is essentially building your audience, the value and the relationship that you have with your audience. Once you build your audience with followers and given enough value first, you will start monetizing your assets (Social media channels, email lists…) Now is when the fun part starts…

Followers that buy your content

Remember,
just having followers doesn’t mean you have an asset.

If your audience doesn’t buy your content, it’s not an asset. The only asset is an audience that likes your business or brand, and wants to buy your (shit) products. That’s it. That’s the asset.

If you don’t have followers, there’s no asset. If you don’t have a relationship with the followers, there’s no asset. If you don’t have a product, well, that’s not too bad, because you can still create a product later and just send it to them.

So this is a very powerful and simple message for your Online Strategy:

For Instagram: 1- get the followers, 2- Build a relationship with the followers, 3- sell your product

For YouTube (same thing): 1- build your channel and create videos, 2- build a relationship with your subscribers, 3- and sell them stuff

For Facebook / Linkedin (same thing): 1- build your profile and create content, 2- build a relationship with your contacts, 3- and sell them stuff

Email list (same thing): 1- collect emails and build your email list, 2- provide value, 3- sell your products

There is only one secret here:

value, value, value, sell, value, value, value, sell…

Or as Gary Vee would say: “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook!!”

You don’t have to sell super aggressively, you can just recommend products, like: “Hey, I liked this core product, it’s really cool! Try it”
I recommend it and if people trust you they will do it so.

How I started building my online assets

I usually send many emails, and most of the time, I get good results. And the reason why is because I go ahead and I opt-in into different types of business email lists. So I joined their email list, and I literally just opt-in to see what they’re doing, to do basically the opposite.

Because what most people and businesses are doing is building their list. They just send promotions, promotions, promotions

And guess what?

People get tired of that. People hate to be sold. People hate that you are signing them their stuff. They just want to buy if they want to buy it. So what I do is, I go to their email lists to see what they’re doing, to do the opposite.

I take note of what not to do. In some cases also what to do, but those are a few cases because the amount of legit people out there I can actually like and trust on the internet is very low. Believe it or not, I just follow 3 or 4 guys out there…

That’s another thing. I don’t want to make these super long guys, but in a nutshell,

instant gratification kills your online business.

That’s why most people fail online. You have to understand that the first thing is to put in the work that it’s not gonna pay off. But then it snowballs, to a point where you’re investing the same amount of time and being paid a hundred times as much.

Remember: build online assets. Build your audiences and followers. Provide real value to those followers and have an offer that solves their problem. Sometimes it doesn’t have to solve a problem in some cases. It could be a shirt that is really cool and people buy it because they like your business or brand, what you stand for, what you represent, and they want to join your movement.

That’s it for today.

Hope you enjoyed it. If you did, just send it to a friend, or share it with someone who might find it helpful.

P.S.
